Restaurants

Archie’s Wok

Subtle, tasteful, comfortable. The ribs are gorgeous and the wine fairly priced. Casual and fine dining in one.

Café des Artistes

A tradition for locals and foreigners alike. Thierry is a chef par excellence that just may be over stretching the brand in A Gordon Ramsey-esque empire expansion. Bordering on the ridiculously priced.

Casa Naranjo

Despite the fact that this local staple is usually empty, it is famous for its quality offering and attentive staff. The international cuisine served offers a wide variety of choices, the Cold Naranja (orange) soup is highly recommended.

Coco’s kitchen

Coco’s Kitchen by day, Barrio Sur by Night. Completely separate concepts. This casual eatery in a romantic jungle setting is ideal for breakfast, though the staff could use a little more training.

Daiquiri Dicks

In old Town, this beachfront restaurant has managed to avoid gauging its customers. The food is excellent and the wine list substantial. Now if they would only clean up their beach.

El Barracuda

Perhaps one of the most understated, comfortable and quality restaurants on the beach in Vallarta. Not a pompous waiter in site. Avoid on Friday and Saturday nights, trust me.

Joe Jacks Fish Shack

Like Barracuda, but not on the beach.

La Leche

An excellent brand concept exceedingly well implemented. Barbie as a hostess could be axed.

Ocho Tostadas

Hob knob with the locals on Sunday in this simple but quality eatery. The Agua Chile de Camaron (shrimp marinated in lime and chili) is superb. Be brave and ask for it bravo.
